Centre CLARK / 5545 de Gaspé
The building in which Centre Clark rents was built in the 1960s as a light-industrial facility, and was rented to the several small garment manufacturing businesses that employed (legally, and not-so-legally) immigrants and migrant workers in Montreal. When galerie Clark moved in in 2001, the building was already only partially tenanted because several of the workshops had already moved to better facilities up at Chabanel. After changing owners, the building was purchased, sight unseen, by Allied in 2011. Allied bought the building with the intention of evicting all current tenants and then renting the space for corporate offices. Allied conducted a series of renovations to the property, the result of which was the increase of property taxes by 300%. The construction company that conducted the renovations shows images on the interior on its | https://www.jcb.ca/en/project/5445-5455-de-gasp%C3%A9 |website|.
