work > Subsidy

Subsidy is the title of an intervention and three week displacement enacted as the outcome of a year-long residency at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin.

Schwebel’s artistic project within the residency was to pay the seven (otherwise unpaid) interns whose internships coincided with his year in residence by redirecting the €3,000 allotted for the exhibition budget back to the institution.

A catalogue was published by Archive Books in 2016, which includes essays by Amber Landgraff, Isabel Lorey, Marina Vishmidt, Livia Tarsia in Curia, Catarina Pires, Shoshana Schwebel, and artistic interventions by Birte Endrejat and Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay.
