Intervention - public spectator
The first part of this project took the form of a furtive intervention into the exhibition Nul Si Découvert at FRAC: Le Plateau.
Throughout the duration of the exhibit, I would visit the gallery and stand as a spectator before a single video that was playing in the exhibit. As this video followed display conventions to accommodate the largest public possible, it played on a 2'17" loop. I would stand in the gallery in front of that one installation - a scene from Éric Rohmer's La Collectionneuse featuring a discussion between critic Alain Jouffroy and artist Daniel Pommereuille.
As I was a member of the public, behaving, mostly, as any member of the public would - entering the gallery and looking silently at the work, my engagement was almost completely invisible. However, to the staff of the gallery, and to any repeat visitors, my behaviour became odd as I never left the one piece, and returned to it daily over the course of the exhibition.
I repeated this parasitic performance for 5 weeks, 4 times a week, becoming part of the exhibition without being included in the exhibition.

While I was not included in the exhibition, I became a part of it, but only in a liminal, uncertain manner, for gallery attendants or returning spectators I was visible, but for those passing quickly through the exhibit, I was identical to any other member of the public.
